New Jersey high school football fans could be in for quite a treat on the opening weekend this year. A preliminary agreement has been reached to have five of the top teams in the state, plus one from New York play in a tripleheader September 9th at Giants Stadium.
The match-ups would pit Bergan Catholic against Phillipsburg, St. Peter's Prep would take on Delbarton and St. Joseph of Montvale wil play Poly Prep of Brooklyn.
Three of the teams, Phillipsburg, St. Peter's Prep and St. Joseph of Montvale, won state championships last year. Delbarton played in the state final last year while Bergen Catholic won its sixth state championship in ten years in 2004.
