Passaic High School To Retire Heyward's Number

Passaic High School will retire Craig "Ironhead" Heyward's #34 jersey during a pre-game ceremony on September 30th prior to the Indians game against Bloomfield.

Heyward died on May 27th in his home in Georgia following a long battle with a recurring brain tumor. At Passaic, Heyward ran for a school-record 5,142 yards and 75 touchdowns. He also led the school to three state sectional championships from 1980-83.

Heyward went on to play at the University of Pittsburgh and then became a first-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints in 1988. He played for five NFL teams in 11 seasons before a chordoma cut his career short in 1998.

Public Beats Private In New Jersey Showdown

When Bergen Catholic was trying to fill an opening in its 2006 high school football schedule, the school emailed every school in the state. Only one team responded to playing the private school power....Phillipsburg.

On Saturday the defending state champion Stateliners did the public schools in Jersey proud by beating Bergen Catholic 28-27 in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium.

Hopatcong's Martinek Commits To Rutgers

Hopatcong's Joe Martinek needs only 1,167 yards in his senior season to become New Jersey's all-time leading rusher. While there will be pressure on the 6-0, 195-pound tailback to eclipse Keyport's Kenny Catthouse, at least the pressure of where he'll play his college ball is gone with his verbal commitment to Rutgers.
